{"id":638,"date":"2018-09-12T17:19:41","date_gmt":"2018-09-12T22:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sabacycling.com\/bicycling\/?p=638"},"modified":"2019-03-13T05:06:34","modified_gmt":"2019-03-13T10:06:34","slug":"hurricane-florence-closures-for-the-nantahala-and-pisgah-national-forests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sabacycling.com\/bicycling\/news\/hurricane-florence-closures-for-the-nantahala-and-pisgah-national-forests","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Florence Closures for the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Release Date:\u00a0Sep 12, 2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asheville, NC<\/strong>, September 12, 2018 \u2013 The U.S. Forest Service, Forest Supervisor, having closely tracked the forecast models of Hurricane Florence, has decided to close down all campgrounds and recreation sites, day use or overnight, \u00a0in the Nantahala and the Pisgah National Forests by Thursday September 13<sup>th<\/sup> at noon.<\/p>\n<p>This will include the temporary suspension of creating reservations on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recreation.gov\/\">www.recreation.gov<\/a>. Cancelled reservations, for this timeframe, will be refunded by the reservation service.<\/p>\n<p>The Forest Service will close all seasonal gates, to ensure no one has the opportunity to get trapped behind gates. \u00a0We strongly request that, due to expected wind and rainfall, the public not use trails or general forest areas. Emergency response times will be multiplied if an incident or medical emergency were to occur.<\/p>\n<p>The health, safety, and well-being of the public and visitors to our National Forests is of our number one priority.\u00a0 Sites will be evaluated for health and safety and reopened as conditions allow following the storm passage.<\/p>\n<p>The following campgrounds will remain closed until further notice:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nantahala National Forest beginning September 13 at noon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ammons Branch Camp<\/li>\n<li>Apple Tree Group Campground<\/li>\n<li>Balsam Lake Lodge<\/li>\n<li>Bear Creek Hunt Camp<\/li>\n<li>Bristol Fields Campground<\/li>\n<li>Cable Cove Campground<\/li>\n<li>Cheoah Point Campground<\/li>\n<li>Fires Creek Campground<\/li>\n<li>Hanging Dog Campground<\/li>\n<li>Horse Cove Campground<\/li>\n<li>Jackrabbit Campground<\/li>\n<li>Kimsey Creek Campground<\/li>\n<li>Lake Santeetlah Campsites<\/li>\n<li>Rattler Ford Campground<\/li>\n<li>Standing Indian Campground<\/li>\n<li>Swan Cabin<\/li>\n<li>Tsali Campground<\/li>\n<li>Van Hook Glade Campground<\/li>\n<li>Wine Springs Horse
