-SABA Board Meeting:  August 19, 5:00 PM, at Nocturnal Brewing, Hayesville.  We welcome all to attend and participate.

-Cycle North Carolina Mountain Ride:  SABA members including Mike Vaughn, John Mark Turner, Paula Boyle, Rod Fortney, Martha Quijano, Frank and Edith Mason, and “Big” Mike Robinson rode the 3 day mountain ride out of Forest City, NC .

-Bicycle Ride Across Georgia Ride:  members included Mike Vaugh, John Mark Turner, Paula Boyle, Don Landon, Martha Quijano, and “Big” Mike Robinson rode from Lookout Mountain to Columbus, GA.

-Jackrabbit Trail:  The new 5 mile extension has generated significant activity.  Note this section is  rated for expert /advanced riders.  Ride within your skill level and wear a helmet.

-Piney Knob Trail:  12+ miles of trails have been completed.  The entry road has been partially paved and there is a fundraiser for additional gravel to improve the access road.  Donations towards the gravel fundraiser can be made here: Donate Now! PayPal will give you the option to write a note. Please put Piney Knob Gravel in the special instructions on PayPal.

Donations can also be mailed to:  Piney Knob Trail System, Heritage Partners, P.O. Box 1152, Murphy, NC 28906 (Donations are tax deductible and matching funds are available up to $2,500)

Groups rides continue as weather permits;

Road bike rides are Tuesday 6pm Hayesville Square, Thursday 6pm John C Campbell Folk School parking lot, Saturday 8:30am locations / distances vary and are announced by Friday 6pm.

Mountain bike ride Wednesday 6pm Jack-rabbit trailhead

Gravel bike ride – forming / coming soon – Wednesdays 9am – locations and distances TBA

-Chainbuster Big Ring Challenge MTB Race October 16, 2021 at Jack-rabbit Trails

Quick Bike Maintenance Pre-Ride Checklist :

  • Check tire pressure
  • Check brakes and levers
  • Wipe down fork stanchions & rear shock
  • Clean & lube chain
  • Check wheels and spokes for tightness
  • Check quick release tension
  • Check shift-levers and derailleurs
  • Always wear a helmet
